Some physical characteristics of coatings or paints, such as viscosity or flow time, must be measured and controlled during the production phase or immediately before application.
One of the characterizing properties of fluids is flow time. This type of control is carried out with flow cups, which can be ISO, FORD, DIN or ZAHN type. The flow cups are used to determine the outflow time of Newtonian fluids (fluid whose viscosity does not vary with the speed with which it is measured) and those with similar characteristics.
Another essential check for a good coating result is the measurement of the dynamic viscosity coefficient. Rotational viscometers are the best choice for this test. These measuring instruments allow you checking the viscosity of a fluid (resistance that the particles of a body meet as they flow relative to each other) at constant rotational speed and at a certain operating temperature.
